Dear Bhagavathas,

 

Our Pranams to all those who think of the sufferings of others.

 

Blessed are those who are bestowed with hearts which think of the sufferings of

fellow beings. The act of offering food to others as per the program is very

welcome.May our Lord make more and more hearts reach to the needs of the

unfortunate people.

 

We, with folded hands, make the following request and appeal to all the

Bhagavathas.

 

Let us make it a point to feed atleast some of the people around us or in our

area who are in difficulty, either as individuals or as a group , regularly by

rotation or by joint contribution . This will go a long way in mitigating the

suffering of very many people which in essence is a great service to our Lord.

Such simple efforts on our part will give us great mental satisfaction and

promote harmony in the society. We pray Our Lord to make us serve His children

to the best of our capacity.

In the Thirupavai, Sri Aandal refers to Annadhanam as generating Dharma (sorey

Arancheyyum). Annadhanam on “Offering of Food is the Exclusive Privilege of

Ladies.

The Sastras declare that Ladies only can offer Food to Yadhigal and

Bhaghavadhargal. They can only offer Rice Bhiksha to Young Boys on the Day of

their Upanayanam (Sacred Thread Ceremony) Further entertaining guests is also

prerogative of Ladies. Thus Annadhanam is not a Privilege but a sacred duty

cast on Ladies. Epics Record the fact that Sita Devi, Draupadi and Rishipathnis

strictly followed this practice in the lines and entertained several holy

guests.

 

While offering food and entertaining guests anywhere and anytime would

definitely yield merit Punyam to the Ladies, doing so at SRIRANGAM, particularly

to the Vedic Scholars, Bhagavathas and Koil Archakas (Srirangam) that too in

Scared KAISIKA DHWADHASI Day will bring in untold merit to the Donors. The

Merit so accrued will satisfy the hunger and thirsts

to anyone suffering in Narakas. That is why it is said that, No other donations

such as offering clothes, money, education etc., can equal to Annadhanam. For

this reason only Sri Paduka Sahasra Parayana Ladies offering food to vedic

scholars, bhagavathas and koil archakas for the 8th year in succession at SRI

AHOBHILA MUTT PREMISES, EAST CHITRA STREET SRIRANGAM ON KAISIKA DHWADHASI.

 

DECEMBER 4th and 5th of 2003 : KAISIKA EKADHASI AND DHWADHASI

 

JANUARY 3rd and 4th of 2004 : VAIKUNDA EKADHASI AND DHWADHASI

 

APRIL 4th of 2004 : PANGUNI UTHIRAM
