The 'Hindu American Foundation' would provide a voice for the two million-strong Hindu community in the US by interacting with government, media, think-tanks and the public about the religion and issues concerning them, according to a release from the group in Washington. At a function on May 5, the Foundation members interacted with over a dozen US legislators with the purpose of furthering understanding of Hinduism and promoting its ethos of tolerance and pluralism, the release said. Sri Ravi Shankar of the Art of Living Foundation was also present. Shankar said liberty, assimilation and pluralism are the salient features of both American and Hindu cultures.
