Way to success in life--- Developing A Proper Attitude .

The dictionary meaning of the word denotes the posture a person takes with

respect to anything in life. Attitude could be in two ways. One is ‘positive’

and the other is ‘negative’ .

In life , if one is interested to keep himself sane and be a successful

individual , it would be better to develop a positive attitude . Negative

attitude cannot yield any positive results.

We in this mundane world , every day come across number of challenges and

problems, which cannot be evaded so easily. Nor a solution could be found for

all of them. We will have to face them squarely , whether we like it or not. So

, there could be situations when we are able to solve the problems , in which

case we become delighted in our accomplishments. There are many other instances

where in the problems remain haunting us without any probable solutions. In

those instances we become sad and remain dejected. Since we are not able to

achieve our desires , of solving all the problems in life , we become unhappy

and grieve over our performance in life .

In Bhagavad Gita ( Chapter 2, verse- 11 ) Lord Krishna says,

" Asocyaan anvasocas tvam prejnnaa vaadaams ca bhaashase !

gataasuun agataasuums ca naanusocanti panditaah !! "

Meaning,

"A wise person does not grieve in life. So , Arjuna , why you grieve over a

thing , which is not worth that grief " .

Thereby, it is very clear that if we want to avoid grief, first we should become

wise. If knowledge is the means of freedom from grief, ignorance should be the

cause of grief. Obtaining proper wisdom would help us in that case. To obtain

proper wisdom we should have the correct frame of mind. For this positive

attitude would come in handy.

Positive attitude does not mean , looking into positive side of things only. It

is not just optimism. Whenever you come across a problem , weigh the pros and

cons of all the alternative solutions that come to your mind after careful study

and take a posture that would be beneficial not only to you but to all concerned

around you . This means it would call for lots of empathy. We are not alone in

this world. So what ever we decide on any issue would not only affect us but

also the people around. Hence we should be more watchful of others welfare than

concentrating on self alone. This would then bring in additional advantage to us

, since we wil have the support of Almighty in all our actions.

If one is able to develop this positive attitude to perform one’s prescribed

duties in this world, in line with the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, then such

an individual becomes a "Karmayogi" . A " Karmayogi " does a job , as he is

destined to do his prescribed duties in this world , but with the welfare and

happiness of one and all concerned as his prime criterion . He never considers

his happiness alone important.

In life , we all have to do our prescribed duties. No going back on this.

Whenever we perform our duties , if we do not keep our thoughts on the end

results , our concentration on our actions would be more and there by the

results could be better. In most of the cases we fail because we keep our

thoughts constantly on end results and worry about the same , while performing

actions. Let us all do our Karmas for the sake of doing the karmas and for

fulfilling the ordains of the Almighty. Then we will have better results. This

is one way of having a positive attitude.

While performing an act , apart from self , one’s three Gunas arising out of

Vasanas ( results of the previous births ) viz. Satva , Tamo and Rajo Gunas

play an important role. So one cannot consider that he alone is the doer of that

action. Also since no one can predict the end results in advance of the action

in this relative world , he cannot hold himself responsible for the results of

all his actions . More over , all actions are performed in line with the

prescribed duties as laid down by the Almighty . So one cannot say that the

actions are performed only to please himself . Therefore , if one performs the

duties with proper attitude it is called NISHKAMAKARMA and such actions alone

would bring in the ultimate happiness.

Again in Bhagavad Gita ( Chapter 2, verses 55 and 71 ) Lord Krishna narrates.

" Prajahaati yadhaa kaamaan sarvaan Paartha mano gathaan

Aathmany evathmaanaa thushtah sthitha prajnnas thadoschathe" --55

" Vihaaya kaaman yah sarvaan pumamss charathi nihsprihaha

nirmamo nirahankaaraha sa shanthim adhigachathi" --71

Meaning ,

" O ! Partha , when a person gives up all varieties of desire arising for his

own sense gratification alone, which arise from mental concoction , and when his

mind is thus purified , he finds satisfaction in the Self alone , since he sees

not only himself but all around him . Then he is said to be in a pure

transcendental consciousness. Such a person lives free from all personal worldly

desires , for , he has given up all proprietorship of his own and is fully freed

from false Ego. He alone can attain real peace in life , since he has become the

wisest individual. "

Revengeful attitude , arising out of negative attitude , brings unhappiness and

misery in life. Anatomically , a person in anger state has to strain himself

more than a person in a calm state . Thus an agitated mind affects one’s own

health conditions . Slowly the negative effects would eat away the inner

confidence of the person and the person loses his thinking power. Finally the

person would not be able to use his sense organs with synergy and proper control

and there by he would become a failure in life.

Thus ,correct positive attitude and proper frame of mind alone leads to

everlasting happiness and success in life.
