Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana!! Though the question is a old and frequently asked question, it is similar to asking a married woman why she should not go/pray/worship/love any other man other than her husband. Iyyengars/Srivaishnavites are wedded to Lord Vishnu the only One who is called 'The Purushottaman' and thus not necessary to worship any other God/demigod. Guest guest
SrI: The answer to your question is esoteric and can be got only after undergoing kalakshepam of Srimad Rahasya traya saram under a sadacharya. It is more of philosophy than mere fanatism. Without kalakshepam if you try to get the answer for these questions you will surely misconclude that it is Iyengar- fanatism that makes them not to worship. On the contrary there are genuine philosophical reasons for an Iyengars restraint. It is beyond fanatism! Since it is esoteric the scholars of this forum mostly would be reluctant to reply to this question ( also since it is against Desikan's thiruvullam to spread rahasya aarthams in a non-sampradayic way). Instead of dealing with such subtle philosphical issues we usually concentrate on Bhagavad Guna anubhavams. Aravind G. Guest guest
Hari OM! Dear all, There is not only one GOD there is ONLY GOD, If Vaishnava is not worshipping any other demi God's or GOD's there is no problem, they are worshipping GOD in the form of Maha Vishnu, I see Maha Vishnu in Lord Ganesa also, there is nothing wrong in it. But no body's belief should be condemned, Ganesha is of course Narayana in another form. With Love & OM! Guest guest
Dear Devotees and friends, I do not consider myself competant to answer sri nagarajs query. However from what i have learnt from our reverened acharyas is that in our sri vaishnava philosophy Lord srimannarayana is the supreme deity to whom we surrender. The great epic srimad bhagvadgita also propounds the same. After a person goes through samasrayanam and sharanagati through the blessings of an acharya ,it is acomplete surrender to Sriman narayana and worship of anya devathas is prohibited. Pl. bear with me for this indulgence. thank u all. c.k.srinivasan. >"With regards from Dr. Kilambi Ramakrishna" <kramakrishna> >nagaraj <g_nagraj> >CC: 'Suchitra Srinivasan' <suchisrini>, , Jayaraman <jayaraman.v>, nagraj <nagraj> >Re: Lord Ganesha >Wed, 07 Jul 2004 08:41:23 +0530 > >Jai Srimannarayana!! >Though the question is a old and frequently asked question, it is similar >to asking a married woman why she should not go/pray/worship/love any >other man other than her husband. >Iyyengars/Srivaishnavites are wedded to Lord Vishnu the only One who is >called 'The Purushottaman' and thus not necessary to worship any other >God/demigod. >Jai Srimannarayana > >Dr.Kilambi Ramakrishna Ramanuja Dasan > >nagaraj wrote: > > > Namaskaram > > > > I would like to know why an Iyengar Should not worship > > Lord Ganesha/Vinayaka. > > > > Any one pl replay.I am asking the same question for 3 time > > but none of them have replied. > > > > Pl guide me. > > > > jai ram, > > > > nagaraj > > > > > > > > > > > > Links > > > > > > > > > > > > > _______________ Get Citibank Home Loan ! http://go.msnserver.com/IN/52043.asp At an unbelievably low interest rate. Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: As explained in the Chapter "Oh! MY God' in my book "Hinduism Rediscovered" while Srivaishnavas are NOT required to worship anyadevatas, they should not be disrespected. There should be neither 'Vandanam" nor "Nindanam" of the anyadevatas because they are also creations of Bhagavaan who ensouls them as much as us, they are also his Sareera as much as we ourselves are and some of them may actually be His Bhaktas (more than us). It is unvaishnavite for a Srivaishnava to denigrate other deities. Hope this clarifies. If you want to read more and need the book, please contact me. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ===================================================== Dear All, I am not a vaishnava and my view point is this. 1. Those who worship Vishnu are Vaishnavas 2. Thus Vaishnavas are venerable of all those in mankind, simply because no one among His creation(incl. gods) can equal Vishnu. 3. Thus we can classify this mankind with those who pray others and those who pray Vishnu 4. The final destiny is Vishnu for jeevas. Thus after many births, with His krupa, we become Krishnabhakthas. 5. Vishnu is antharyami of all - starting from Brahma to insects. Thus when we pray various gods for various occasions, we have to keep this mind and do pooja. Here bhava scores than deed. When saying Vishnu being Antharyami, we shd not, for a moment, critisize, His creation. This holds good for all the other gods who serve Him in various capacities. They are all uttahama jeevas in the court of Vishnu and we should pay respects to them, simply because, they are all in that position having Vishnu as antharyami and they serve him much better than us. For example, When Sage Agasthya preaches Aditya Hrudayam to Lord Rama, he is just preaching Him on Lord Vishnu who is the indweller(Aditya Hrudaya) of crores of Adityas in this galaxies. We need to understand everything in this way, which is vedic. 6. As they say, sarva deva namaskaraha kesavam prathigacchhati, everything goes finally to Him, all we need to do is to know the truth, which Veda brings for us and have that bhava when we pray. Dear Bhagavathas, Sentiments expressed is well appreciated. But we all have forgotton one thing. The question is ' Why Sri Vaishnavites do not worship Ganesha / Vinayaka ?" . In the answer, it is said only those WHO HAVE DONE SARANAGATHI TO SRIMAN NARAYANAN ' do not worship Ganesha / Vinayaka and to expalin, the reasons are given. No where it is mentioned that NO ONE should worship other Demi Gods . No offence meant to any one. In Chapter 10 of Bhagavad Gita , the Opulence of the Absolute is clearly explained through the discussions of Arjuna and Lord Krishna. As such there is no place for anyone to get sentimental on this. Regards Adiyen, Ramanuja Dasan- G.Sampath. gopinathan.r wrote: Dear all, My aim is not to say anything personally against anyone. I am just expressing my views about the discussion going on in this forum. I want to recall what Lord Krishna says in the Bhagvad Gita. "Whatever form one worships I reach out to him in that form. And whatever worship or prayer one offers ultimately reaches Me." It may be correct if one thinks that he will worship only a particular form of the Lord. But then it does not entitle him to belittle other forms. It is sad to note that such differences are appearing so prominently at a time when Hinduism itself is fighting for its revival, struggling to fight off, on the one hand the Hindu-bashing by the so called "secular" politicians, tv channels and newspapers, and on the other hand the assault being deliberated and meticulously executed by missionaries of other religions, and the "scholars" of RISA (Religions In South Asia) like Paul Courtright and Wendy Doniger who are specializing in "inventing" nightmarish theories about Hinduism and Hindu Gods. I wish to register my protest to such poor comparisons of worshipping another Hindu God, which don't paint a good picture of Hinduism. This would only add strength to those who are trying to belittle Hinduism. This is the time for us to unite. And if we have atleast any atom of love towards Hinduism then it is for us to display it by avoiding the wastage of our energies in belittling our different Gods by such unpleasant and disparaging comparison of their worship to extramarital and immoral affairs. You might wonder why I am so serious in this issue. Pls continue reading this item and you will understand the validity of my argument. Pls note that whatever I am writing below pertains only to those western scholars and their followers in India who are indulging in slanderous campaign against Hinduism. I was infuriated and extremely shocked to read an outrageous and extremely blasphemous comment made by Wendy Doniger. The Bhagavad Gita is not as nice a book as some Americans think. Throughout the Mahabharata ... Krishna goads human beings into all sorts of murderous and self-destructive behaviors such as war.... The Gita is a dishonest book -- Wendy Doniger, Professor of History of Religions, University of Chicago. Quoted in Philadelphia Inquirer, 19 November, 2000. And Paul Courtright has already stunned the world by his smallness in his macabre misrepresentation Hindu Gods. This is just a sample of the sinister and libellous campaign by these western scholars who are holding the field of religious studies to ransom. With their awful influence on the academic world, Wendy and her academic cohorts are waging a war on Hinduism to establish their western hegemony. Their plan is to project Hinduism in poor light by assassinating the culture, beliefs and puranas of this country, thereby creating an air of shame so that Hindus would think it a matter of shame to even identify themselves as Hindus. Already there is a class of people in India who think that anything Indian is inferior; that our ancestors were barbarians; that our ancestors had never even heard of the word "civilization"; that our religion and customs are replete with false and baseless theories; that our religion's epics and scriptures are overflowing with violence and sexuality; that Christianity and the Europeans came here as redeemers; that Europeans taught us culture and "converted" us into human beings; that Europeans especially the British strived for eliminating the inequalities and injustice forced on a section of our people; that without the advent of Europeans, we would have been savages. Once Swami Vivekananda remarked "The first thing that a child going to school is taught is that his ancestors were fools and such education has not produced a single human being in all the presidencies". Unfortunately, this is what has been taught to us from our childhood in schools, even after independence. Education in this country is one of the most maligned and distorted fields in this country, which has been trampled under the notorious feet of the so-called intelligentsia, whose allegiance to Western philosophies, and their open derision of Indian religion continues unscathed. And independent India has only provided a more independent atmosphere and a more fertile ground to these sepoys who find immense pleasure in serving their western masters. It is a curse in this country that our own people take pride in glorifying the notorious history books written by "western scholars" and the result being our own people turning into sepoys fighting to protect the baseless and blasphemous theories of their western masters. Let all of us unite and fight off these evil forces that are trying to jeopardize our religion and its beliefs. It is high time that we stop fighting within ourselves. Any further discussions may be had through private mails among those interested in continuing the discussions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Moderator ========================================================= True.we agree.there is only one god. Sa Eka Purusha:-Veda Vaakyam. Vedas clearly specifies Sriman Narayana as the one & only god. It further specifies all other gods as Angams to Hari. There is no further superior statement than what vedas determine. So the statement what our friend Dr.Kidambi Ramanujan wrote is true and does not hurt or condemn any ones feelings.
