Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatottamas, It is rather unfortunate that this issue has become an eternal debate. Not only in India but world wide. Even, non-hindus who really do not know Ramayan start abusing the Lord for this deed. I think it is due to lack of reading of our Poorvacharyas work on this subject. Let me start from the fact saying that Perumal & Piratti are impeccable & one can find no fault in them. Among all the incarnations Ramavathar assumes a special significance as Lord & his consort take the human form and undergo all the sufferings of normal human beings and also their happiness. It is in fact a great drama as Swamy Deshikan puts it, enacted by Piratti and Perumal for our benefit. In the painful episode of Sita, Lord shows to the world that he can tolerate any apacharam even to him but he cannot tolerate Bhagavatha apacharam. The punsihment for this will be severe and even his beloved will not be spared. Now, what did Sita do. We have to go back to Aranya kaandam. It was after Rama left her to fulfill her wish of getting that golden deer. She heard the Voice "HA Lakshmana", "HA Sita" and the sound Looked like Rama's, which was actually created by Maricha before his death. Following this, Sita instructed Lakshmana to go at once & rescue Rama, but Lakshmana who understood the Rakshasa maya was unmoved. Then came the abuses from Janaki. She went to the extent of accusing Lakshmana of malafide intentions on her, because he is not going to the rescue of Rama. That was indeed the greatest Bhagavthapacharam, because imagine the agony Lakshmana would have faced at this accusation. It is nothing before the inflicted by Rama to Sita. He served the pair without even leading a married life himself for 13 years & this is what he finally got!. That was behind Lord Rama's anger for Sita when he met her the first time after this episode.Thats the reason she was silent and went for prayaschittam, because she knows the reason for what she is being punished. In fact, as a husband Lord also holds a share in her apacharam and pays for it also by facing the agony of separation. The agony is for the couple and not for only one of them. Indeed, Bhagavathapacharam is the greatest sin one can ever perform & there is no pardon from Lord for it. This sin of Sita, u can see has not spared her till the end. Even after reunion she had to be again separated because of this one sin. Realise, that all this is drama for people to understand that Bhagvathapacharam is unpardonable. Only Saranagthi is a solution for this and no 'parihaaram' exists. There are very lucid explanations by our poorvacharyas for the great drama & I suggest a good reading of them. All the doubts which generally exist will vanish. Sajjana padapadma parama renuhu Lakshmi Narasimha dasaha / /
