Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: On completion of 80 years of age, what is celebrated is "SathaabishEkam" and NOT "KankaabishEkam" which is celebrated on completion of 100 years of age. Prapannas do not and should not pray to anyadevatas under any circumstances. Paramaikantins do not pray for even moksham which Bhagavaan alone can grant, not to speak of other phalans and especially from anya devatas. This applies to all Homams and Navagraha puja etc. mentioned by you. If people do this, it is either due to lack of understanding or they are NOT Prapannas or Paramaikantins. Swami Desika has provided alternatives. Dasavatara Stotra and Paduka Sahasra slokam "Kanakaruchiraa Kaavyaakyaataa" are considered to ward off all evil effects caused by planets. Hope this clarifies the doubts contained in the following mail. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ========================================================= Namaskaram, Recently Kanagabhishegam was celebrated for 80 years old vaishnava widow patti. In this event Navaghraha Pooja, Navaghraha Homam, Mrithinjaya Homam, Aush Homam, Dhambathi Pooja for 3 pairs were performed. Ayush Homam is performed to increase the life span. What I didn't get is, why should other homams like Navaghraha Homam, Mrithinjaya Homam, and Navaghraha Pooja be conducted by Vaishnavas. Mritunjaya Homam is conducted with fire sacrifice to relieve sickness and increase vitality. Maha Mruthyunjaya Homam Dedicated to Lord Shiva to avoid untimely death. The Mrityunjaya Homa is performed to achieve Jaya or Victory over Mritya or death. It is performed for longevity, for extending lifetime, cure for chronic illness and healthy life. #1. Why should we vaishnavas pray to Shiva to avoid untimely death, when we can pray to lord Vishnu directly? #2. Why should vaishnava do Navagraha Puja to remove the navagraha doshas? Guest guest
Jayaram swami, This doing of other homas by srivaishnava's have come as we all need immediate fruits. The Saivas or these devathas are the heads of the panchayats. They attend to the petition immediate or so is the belief. But Sriman narayana on the advice of SRI is the only purusha, which means he is alone the giver of etrnal bliss. People indulge in lesser things due to their lesser development of self. FYI, my grandfather used to read the Sundara kandam daily, and the parayanam of Sahasranamam is a must for us. Only this alone is warding off all the evils for us. Of late I know of a family who perform only Sudarsana homam for any thing in their family. Not to say they are without any problems. I am also planning to do a homa every year. Anyway beyond all this only our constant thought focussed on him brings all the happiness. Desika stotras as ramasamy swami says can be invoked for immediate benefit in a particular situation. dasan/raghavan --- "Jayaraman.S" <jai_2_u wrote: > Dear Bhagavatas: > On completion of 80 years of age, what is celebrated > is > "SathaabishEkam" and NOT "KankaabishEkam" which is > celebrated > on completion of 100 years of age. > > Prapannas do not and should not pray to anyadevatas > under > any circumstances.
