Respected Swamins,

in a recent message one of sri.desikas compositions was spelt as AchuyyA

Sayakam. Perhaps this is how it is pronounced in prakrit. But was it also written

like this by our Desikar?

tHIS ALSO RAISES A QUESTION. wHAT PROMPTED OUR SIMHAM TO compose a hundred

verses in an ancient language not in use. this is not a devabasha. Was it to show

his mastery in that language or was their any other purpose? Are there other

works in this language by any of our acharya parampara?

Thesr are genuine doubts. adiyen daSAN NARAYANAN

Dear Sir,

One of the reasons for composing AchuyyA Sayakam in prAkrit by Deshikar may be

to target Buddhists and Jains. Their foremost scriptures appeared in Prakrit

(when Sanskrit was the norm).

SrI:

Dear SwAmin,

I heard the following explanation in a discourse for Swami Desikan's

composition of Achutha Sathakam in Prakrutham:

Swami Desikan was so devoted to Lord Devanathan that he considered himself

to be a nAyaki (vEnkatanAyaki) in love with the Lord. In those days, women

were more comfortable with Prakutham than Sanskrit. As Swami Desikan

had become a nAyaki, to be consistent with this thought, he could have

composed Achutha Sathakam in Prakrutham.

dAsan,

Venkatesh.

Dearest all,

There is also an another anubhavam to the reason for composition in

prAkrutham: It is thus not a mandate that the sthOthras need to be

in Sanksrit; It can be in any language and Swamy wanted to establish

that. I read this somewhere just a month ago: Due to old age

creeping in- do not remember where I read.

Sri RAmajayam

SrimathE GOpAla DEsika MahA DEsikAya Namaha

Swamin,

The other anubhavam could possibly be,

"Saraswathi's infant language was Prakrutham", and has

a childish mellifluosness. And Swamy DEsikan thus

chose Prakrutham for Acchutha Sayayam (Sathakam).
