==========================================================

Dear list members

I've been a silent member of the list for some time,

following with interest many of the discussions taking place, but

until now was busy at university studying for my degree and haven't

had a chance to post.

By way of introduction: I am 22 years old, living near

London, UK. My parents hail from Mysore and Bangalore, and settled

here over 30 years ago. We're of Sama Vedi lineage and I've been

searching for the (notoriously elusive!) Sama Upakarma procedure for

a couple of years now since my upanayanam. To my knowledge there are

no practising Samavedis in the UK so it's not possible to get it done

at a temple here.

Recently while in India I found a copy of the procedure in

Kannada, as well as the Tamil PDF from Ahobila Matham website.

However my kannada and tamil reading is a bit slow; so I've tried to

put together a Roman transliteration of the procedure. In light of

what some other members have posted, I'm very unsure of the

correctness of certain sections. However, the tarpaNam section should

be mostly correct and if anyone in this group would like an English

script transliteration I'd be more than happy to post it/send it...

Lastly, is it possible to get hold of the mantras for maunji,

ajina and danDa? These aren't in either of my sources and I'm not

sure if they are they are the same as for Yajur Vedis. Also I'd like

to know at what point in the upakarma procedure they should be

recited. Any help would be much appreciated.

best wishes,

Ranjan
