Guest guest
Dear Devotees: I have a doubt regarding the rules for performing sandhyAvandanam during ASaucam (teeTTu). For instance if there is death in the family, during this time do we continue to perform nitya karmA-s, or do we perform only some parts of it? Information on the above will be very much appreciated. -dAsan Krishnamachari
Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: Sri Ramachandran is correct. Sandhyavandanam should never be missed under any circumstances because it is a "Nitykarma". No compromise is allowed like observing a part etc as suggested by some.In the circumstances stated by Sri Krishnamachariar Swami, if this could not be observed immediately, one must and should clear the arrears later, on the same day as soon as possible after taking bath or the next day with the Sankalpam "Poorvedhyu: ananushTitam (Praatah Sandhya / MaadhyahmikaSandhya / Saayam Sandhya, as the case may be) adhya aham KarishyE". This is what Acharyas have advised during AnushTaana Grantha KaalakshEpams. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ============================================================================= Respected Sir: The Sanskrit prefix is clear, it is "nitya" i.e forever until one's last breath. Sandhya is perhaps the only karma which does not get impacted due to 'teetu' and rites/rituals and 'impure' periods occasioned by death etc. IT HAS TO BE DONE COME RAIN OR SHINE. Om tat sat Tat tvam asi "champakam" <champakam@ .com> cc: Question related to sandhyAvandnam. 09/19/04 06:59 AM Dear Devotees: I have a doubt regarding the rules for performing sandhyAvandanam during ASaucam (teeTTu). Guest guest
Sri Rama Jayam I recently came across an article regarding Sandhyavandanam and Gayathri japam, where Sri Abhinava Vidya Teertha Mahaswamigal of Sringeri Sharada Peetham had spoken in great detail about the nityakarma. He says that Sandhyavandanam has to be performed everyday without fail at any cost. In addition, he says the Arghyapradanam is the most important part next only to the Gayathri japam part. Also, I remember to have read elsewhere that during the latter half of Sandhyavandanam (i.e., the japam and the sankalpam and nyasam for it), mantrams pertaining to that part have to be recited within the mind during times of Asoucham.
