Dear raama bhakthaas,

We saw in the previous post how thaaraa has realized raamaa is the supreme soul

from what was informed by angadhan to her [realization from hearsay]. With that

information she just tried to stop vaali from going into war with sugreevan.

Having known that vaali has started and that he will most probably be killed,

see her reaction while seeing raama in person for the first time in her life.

Now the scene is vaali almost dead or about to leave is body. Thaaraa has

reached the place away from palace where vaali has fallen on ground. She started

wailing.

gOpthaa |

raamO rudhantheem vyasanE nimagnaam samuthsuka: sa: atha dhadharsa thaaraam ||

4-24-25

meaning: At that moment, raama whose perseverance is like that of the earth and

who is the protector of earth has seen thaara, who is wailing and repeatedly

looking around as she is deluged in desperation, and then with all his

concernedness raama paced towards her.

uththaapayaamaasu: adheena saththvaam manthri pradhaanaa: kapi raaja pathneem ||

4-24-26

Meaning: The prominent monkey ministers then started to raise her up, whose eyes

are pleasant and intellect unfailing, and who had the lion among monkeys as her

husband, but now collapsed on ground hugging her departed husband.

Point: Please see sri vaalmeekee while describing thaaraa says

chaaru nEthraam = pleasant eyed one

a + dheena + saththvaam = not piteous at intellect [viz. she is of unfailing

intellect].

[Not only here, we again see her intellectual capacity when lakshmaNa goes to

the sugreeva#146;s palace very much angry for sugreevan failed to start the work

of searching seethaa after the winter is over].

dhadharsa raamam sara chaapa paaNim sva thEjasaa sooryam iva jvalantham ||

4-24-27

Meaning: She, who is hugging her husband wriggled highly, when she is disengaged

from him, and at a particular stage, saw raama with his bow and arrow in his

hands and who is resplendent like sun, by his own resplendence.

|

adhrushta poorvam purusha pradhaanam ayam sa kaakuthstha ithi prajajnE ||

4-24-28

meaning: On seeing at him whose eyes are graceful, one endowed with all kingly

attributes, who looked best among men, and who is unseen so far, that fawn-eyed

thaaraa realized him alone as that raama

Point: She came to know him as 'that' raama,

1] about whom son angadhan told her earlier;

2] who killed vaali;

3] of whom saintly people talk about.

[the hearsay description of raama has become a visual treat now just in front of

her].

As the proverb 'great people perceive each other's greatness by a simple look -

'vidhvaan Eva vijaanaathi vidhvadh jana parisrama#146;. To say the same in tamil

#150; #145;kaRRaarai kaRRaarE kaamuruvar#146; #150; meaning - only an

intellectual can recognize and like another intellect.

When eyes of intellectuals meet each other they recognize one another. Here

vaalmeekee says #145;ithi prajajnE#146; #145;realized#146;. For eyes talk a lot,

thus that fawn-eyed lady's eyes met those divine eyes of raaamaa [see next

slOkam],

tham saa samaasaadhya visudhdha saththvam sOkEna sambhraantha sareera bhaavaa |

manasvinee vaakyam uvaacha thaaraa raamam raNa uthkarshaNa labdha lakshyam ||

4-24-30

Meaning: The body language of thaara, which is so far disconcerted by the grief,

felt for raama's perfect hitting, felling and achieving his object, namely

killing vaali, in war, is now disoriented to anger on seeing the very same

raama. Since she is a self-respectful lady, on arriving near that pure being

raama, that ireful body language of hers, again reoriented itself to a sort of

serenity. Then she spoke thus to him [as in next slOkam].

Point:

1. In modern management science, while discussing on the topic of

#145;communication#146; so much is said about the body language viz,

· How you look at,

· What kind of facial impression you show,

· How you gesture with your hands, body and legs, even movement of eyes,

etc

These communicate what is in your mind, how you receive the message and react

etc. Here again what the modern communication theories say, these points are

readily there in raamaayanam for all of us to realize.

Sri M.G.Vasudevan has written a series earlier about #147;good governance,

raamaa#146;s style#148; on points of administration of a country by different

ministries etc, as available in raamaayanam. These amply prove the point that

our ancient raamaayanam and mahaa bhaaratham are so rich in content, meaning,

story telling, neethi saasthram etc.

2. It is understood or commented upon as she rushed to raama wishing to hurl at

him, a mouthful of swears in her anger. We realize this, by the use of words

#145;manasvinee#146; contrasted with visuddha saththvam. On nearing a #145;pure

being#146; #145;suddha saththvam#146;, the other two human traits, namely anger

and stupidity, rajO thamO guNou:, have become quiet in her.

She became very polite and started to eulogize him. When she advised vaali to

not to confront this raama, then also she spoke about the attributes of raama,

but that was on hearsay information. Now being in his very presence, she is

rendered with a pure consciousness. The nearness of a #145;pure being#146;

automatically provides a serene mind to anyone. Now read her words of praise.

thvam apramEya: cha dhuraasadha: cha jithEndhriya: cha uththama dharmaka: cha |

aksheeNa keerthi: cha vichakshaNa: cha kshithi kshamavaan kshathaja upamaa

aksha: || 4-24-31

meaning: Thaaraa praises raamaa as

· You are an indeterminable one

· An inaccessible one,

· One with his self conquered,

· The supreme among righteous souls,

· Your glory is unmitigated,

· You are the one with clear discrimination

· You are earth-like in endurance,

· Your eyes are blood streaked like those of an emperor.

Dear raama bhakthaas, shall we also take clue from thaara on raama#146;s gUnam-s

- attributes and ponder over this slOkam, till we receive next post.

with due respects
