Guest guest
Dear Sri Vaishnavites, Can any of you kindly explain anything and everything about Sri Salagramam. I am hearing from elders some are highly powerful. And we have to follow 'Madi' procedure without any sesham / theettu. Can you explain in detail such as the origin, classifications etc. Also I heard there is a specific name for each salagramam salagramam garland on Thiruvenkadanathan. Kindly share these names as I am interested in learning them. All I know so far is, Kandaki nadhi in Nepal is the main source for Salagramam. Kind Regards, Ravi

Worshipping Him in the form of Salagraamam is relatively easy when compared to worshipping him in the form of idols (Vigraha Aaraadhanam). Vigraha araadhanam requires a lot of Aagama principles to be meticulously followed which is quite a bit difficult for a nromal person. And doing Praayaschithams for idols in the case of non adherence to rituals are also elaborate. In Salagraama Aaradhanam, things are relatively simple. You have to observe the basic aacharam (madi) without fail. Using cow's milk during the Thirumanjanam is sufficient for praayaschitham for any non-adherence of aachaaram. You can perform Laghu Aaraadhanam in just about 20 minutes flat. And worshipping The Lord in Saalagraamam daily is a moving experience which no words can explain but must be experienced. You require fragrant flowers ( esp. jasmine), thulasi, sandal paste ( preferably paste made by rubbing sandalwood block with water and not the commercially available chemical added sandalwood rings), some sweet fruits, sugar candy ( kaRkaNdu) for this. >All I know so far is, Kandaki nadhi in Nepal is the main source for >Salagramam. > > > Yes .Salagraamam shoud not be a purchased item but you can get it from various sources. Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: All genuine Saligramams lying in the riverbed of GanTaki haver already been picked out and treasured with the King of Nepal in his palace. In the olden days, visitors to Muktinath used to get Saligramams from the King of Nepal. All that is left behind in the riverbed are only HiraNyagarbhar Silas. No doubt, some elders residing in the Divyadesam for long may be having some genuine ones, which they will only be glad to offer to genuine seekers. That is how, way back in 1991 during my visit to Muktinath, I got about a dozen Saliogramamas, I showed them to Srikaryam Swami to H.H. Srimad Andavan, Poundarikapuram Swami Asramam, Srirangam. He examined each one of them and spelled out the names of the various moorthis. I am keeping them along with another batch bequeathed to me by my parents and am doing Tiruvaradanam. There are several restrictions on the size, color, weight of Saligramams that can be used for worship. Please familiarize yourself with these restrictions before you venture to acquire one for your daily worship. You may consult your Acharyan on these matters. As rightly pointed out, we should scruipulously avoid purchasing from commercial outlets like in Mylapore, Triplicane etc. where the Silas may not be the genuine ones.
