Guest guest
Dear Bhagavatas: In continuation of my earlier posting on "Tiru Anbil", I wish to add a couple of more details about this KshEtram. This is an excerpt from "Divya Desa Darshanam" published by "Sri Krishna Sabha, Mumbai 400 022. " Puranas describe this place as BRAHMAPURI. SKANDA PURANA refers to Shiva who was besieged with Brahmahatti dosha (sin of plucking out Brahma's head and the skull sticking to his hand), worshipping this Lord on his way to KaNDiyur where the sin was washed away. Belief has it that a Muni used to perform tapas under water and developed strength and power. Once Sage Durvasa who happened to visit this place waited for a long time to meet the rishi. Feeling slighted, he cursed the muni to become "maNDooka" (frog). This MaNDooka maharishi performed tapas to the Lord at Anbil and had the curse lifted. Hence, this place is also called "MaNDookapuri" and the theertham "MaNDooka pushkaiNi".
