Guest guest
Respected Sir: Some years back when the meter gauge was in vogue in the Tambaram/Chengelput route, most of the trains used to stop at "Ottivakam" station. Its a small village station, quite isolated. From Ottivakam, the temples are less than 1 kilometer and one can easily walk through the villages easily. After the gauge conversion from meter to broad gauge, One is not sure whether all trains stop at Ottivakam. Insofar as the roads go, from Chengelput the roads leading into PV Kalathur are quite bad, full of potholes with nil lighting at night. Travel is very bumpy and takes about 1-1.5 hrs. from Chengelput. Please checkout the bus timings because these become erratic often due to a variety of reasons. For those who can afford, the best bet is to hire a car/taxi/call-cab available in/around Chennai. If you intend hiring an autorickshaw, it would be better to fix a rate for him both ways with waiting for say 2/3 hrs. This could work out cheaper. Please take adequate food and water since nothing is available on the way and at PV Kallathur there are not much shops/hotels to boast of. Is a small village. There is no staying facility in /around PV Kalathur. The nearest lodging is at Chengelput. Those proceeding from Chennai may take the help/guidance from S.Rajagopalan,44th Street, House 8, Nanganallur. telephone 22345840. Please give him advance notice and you may quote this writer's name. If feasible, one may plan something more, a sort of icing in the cake by also including the temple situated atop a small hillock. Cannot recollect the name immediately, but it is similar to the Tirupati Perulam. The temple is closer to Vedanthangal / Thirukazikundram route. The Thayar and Perumal are simply beyond compare. Small compact figures surrounded amidst natural settings in a spic and span clean temple precint. It is quite calm and worth the travel. Adequate parking space is also available atop.
