Placement of Murthis in the home

I have a question which I would like to pose to any knowledgeable

list members. We are purchasing a new house and are setting aside one

room specifically for worship. I would like to know on which side

(North, South, East, West) of the room should Deities be placed, and

in which direction They should ideally be facing? Some people tell me

that Deities should be placed so that they are facing East, while

others tell me that they should be placed on the East side facing

West. I would like to know which way is definitely the correct one.

 

Also, is there any scripture or other text which explicitly mentions

this subject?
