Understanding the concept of propitating to our Gods

Dear Members

 

I am trying to understand the concept of propitating our Gods.

Exactly what is the nature and relationship between man and our Gods,

I am not talking of the supreme God but of the other devatas like

Agni, Vayu, Indra etc.

 

I realise that we depend on the Gods for our wellbeing. But do our

Gods also depend on us for their wellbeing. What would happen in

Heaven if we do not offer sacrifices.

 

I would appreciate if someone could offer some insight into this

subject.
