ESTEEMED BHAGHAVATHAS,

HOW WE GO ABOUT OFFERING WORSHIP TO HANUMAN?

1.AS A PARAMA BHAGHAVATHA

2.AS ANOTHER DEITY INVOKING HIS BLESSINGS FOR FULFILLMENT OF A DESIRE?

KINDLY ENLIGHTEN.

Dear Sri Arvind:

You have written -

"If you want you can offer him a garland of vadas. (Vadai Malai)"

>From what I have heard in KaalakshEpams in India is that it is NOT a "VaDai

maalai" but a "vaDam" of maalai of flowers and that this stems from the incident

in which Sri Rama offered a "maalai" to Sri Sita asking her to gift it to anyone

she deemed as deserving and Sri Sita gifted it to AnjanEya and that the

practice of offering "vaDai" though popular in some local customs is NOT

supported by any authority.

Can you please cite any authentic pramaaNam for this as also for offering betel

leaf maalai?

Read out or recite Hanuman Chalisa. and recite lots of prayers dedicated

to Sri Ram. Remember, if you are a Ram bhakt Hanuman is pleased too!

If you want you can offer him a garland of vadas. (Vadai Malai).

and if you want something done ..

try a garland of Betel leaf. ( Vettalai Malai).

All these things go well with the culture and customs only! Nothing

wrong in doing all this for hinduism is a way of life.

Remember, the absolute truth is still very far away.

Thanks

Arvind

 SRIMATE RAMANUAJYA NAMAHA

In Hanuman chalisa we come across a verse which states that "Aura devata chitta

na dharayi ,Hanumat se hi sarva sukha karaihi" meaning I will not worship any

other God & will get all the pleasures from Hanuman".This does not fit well into

srivaishnava siddhantam.Hence is it right to recite Hanuman chalisaa?

In on of HIS Tele-Upanyasam, Srimad Azahgiya Singar told that we should not

pray

Sri Anjaneya, if he is Installed Alone (like seperate Anjaneya Temple)

He should be prayed only when he is seen along with Sri Sita Rama Ghosti.

Pls. correct me if my understanding was wrong.

Respected Bhagavathas,

It is indeed very interesting that Shrimad Azhagiya Shingar has made this

observation. On the one hand, we have Swami Deshikan saying that we have to

worship Hanuman as a Parama Bhagavata but at other places, like in Hanuman

Chalisa itself, we see that Hanuman is considered to be the avatar of Shiva. We

also see that Swami Deshikan has not composed any separate poem/stotra on

Hanuman like he has done for Andal, Periya Thiruvadi or Sudarshanar. In the

light of all this, in the Shrivaishnava tradition, it is clear that Hanuman

should not be worshipped independently but only as a bhakta of Lord Rama or may

be Lord Krishna. While going through one of my acharyan father's several

hand-written notebooks, I remember to have seen a note made to the effect that

the great scholar Shriman D.T.Tatachar was of the opinion that Hanuman should

not be worshipped without the Dhivya Dhampathis Rama and Seetha. This is exactly

what the varthamana Azhagiya Shingar has conveyed too. Therefore, my humble

opinion is that while we can recite shlokas in praise of Hanuman from Shrimad

Ramayanam, it may not be proper for us to recite shlokas like "buddhir balam..."

I did not mean to open a can of worms.

I just wrote what i have seen in most temples here in Delhi and similar

such rituals taking place in various other cities and villages. Since i

have been seeing these rituals since childhood, i assumed that it was

the normal Anjaneya worship.

As for someparts of hanuman chalisa clashing with our tradition...

i only answered the question of offering prayer to Hanuman, and not to

offend any of our traditions.

I am extremely sorry, if i hurt anybody's feelings.
