Guest guest
I am told that one Tenklai devotee by name Prativaadi bhayankaram aNNa composed Sri Venkatesha-suprabhaatam, stotram, prapatti and mangalam (around 14-15 century CE). Except though is the first slokam (kausalya suprajaa...aahnikam) , which is from Srimad valmiki Ramayanam. dAsan, K.S. tAtAchAr Sridharan <s_rajamani_22 Tue, 25 Oct 2005 05:00:12 -0000 Venkatesa Suprabatham - Author Hello All, I would like to know who wrote the Venkatesa Suprabatham. Guest guest
Sri Prathivadhi Bhayangaram Annan is a unique poorvacharya who has composed Sri Sukthis on Swami Desikan (Sapthadhi Rathna Malika) and Swami Manavala Mamunigal (Sri Vara Vara Muni suprabhatham etc). Sri Annan did his Sri Bhashya kalakshepam under Kumara Varadhacharyar (Swami Desikan's son) and won a debate with an Advaitin (Narasimha Misra) and established the supremacy of Vishistadwita Siddhanta got the title 'Prathivadhi Bhayankaram' from his Acharyan Kumara Varadacharyar. Sri Anna became a disciple of Swamy Manavala Mamunigal and was one of the Ashta Dighgajas (Eight indomitable Acharyas) to propagate SriVaishnava philosophy. His thaniyan sloka says he is the receptor of Sri Desikan's Kataksham and Sri Mamunigal's Karunai. VedantaDesika Kataksha Vivruththa Bhodham Kanthobhayanthrumina: Karunaika pathram Vathsaanvavaaya manavadhya Gunairubhedham Bhakthya Bhajami Prathivadhi Bhayangararyam Also on a sidenote, I don't think we could classify many of our poorvacharyas as either Thenkalai or Vadakalai. Sri Pillai Lokachariar, Sri Desikan, Sri Periyavachchan Pillai, Sri Manavala Mamunigal, Sri Annan and many other Acharyas belong to the entire Sri Vaishanva community. Without Sri Mamunigal's commentary on Periyazhwar Thirumozhi how could we ever understand Azhwar's Bhagavadh anubahvams? Another striking example is Sri Ranga Ramanuja muni, who is a prominent acharya of Munithrya Sampradhayam. Without Sri Ranga Ramanuja Muni's commentary on all the major upanishads (Sri Ranga Ramanuja Muni has written commentaries for all the major Upanishads except Isa and Supalah, because Sri Sruthaprakasika Bhattar has written a commentary on Supalopanishadh and Sri Desikan and Sri Kura Narayana Jeer Swami has written commentaries on Isavashya) based on Vishistadwita philosophy, it would be highly difficult understand the esoteric meanings of these upanishads. Even the recent acharyas like Sri Uththamoor Swami and Kanchipuram PBA swami has done so much to our sampradhayam, they truly belong to our entire SriVaishanava community. Though these acharyas had some difference of opinions on certain things, still they did not create a dharshanam or religion of their own. Every one of them contributed towards Sri Ramanuja Dharshanam. Let us follow whatever sampradhyam we belong to, and at the same time respect and appreciate all the works done by our poorvacharyas. Guest guest
Dear Swamin, I agree that there is no disrespect implied when we say one acharya belongs to Thenkalai or Vadakalai. What I was talking about is bringing these great acharyas into the narrow bandwidth of kalais. These acharyas are indeed beyond any kalai bedham and belong to the entire srivaishnava community. Guest guest
Dear Shri. Kannan and Shri. tAtAchar, In fact in my email sent to the group and to the aurhor who has referred in the context of Kalai, I got no reply. I find that is not a proactive discussion. Though, we all belong to Sri. Vaishnava community as a whole we have to stand united and project works by either of the group as one, and follow their teachings with passion and zeal. Instead of giving a branding that is only to influence widening the gap. I respectfully disagree with any such notion. Afterall our sampradhyam has seen many such debates and disagreement through which we have uplifted ourselves towards higher goals in spirutuality.
