Guest guest
The entire Mahabaratha was fully translated into Tamil by a group of Tamil and Sanskrit Pandits in the 1930s. The coordination of the translation effort was lead Sri M V Ramanujachariar who was the Tamil Pandit in Kumbakonam college. The publication itself was done by Sri SivaramaKrishnaiyar of Mahahabharatham press, Kumbakonam. The translation ran to 9 volumes, each volume being close to 1000 pages. The translation per se was done by several authors, Sri T E Srinivasachariyar (of Trichy St Joseph's college), Sri Karungulam Krishna sastrigal and Sri Paingaadu Ganapathy Sastrigal. This work, which was published in 1930s was not available for a period of close to 70 years, till now. Venkatramanan S, who is the grandson of Sri SivaramaKrishnaiyar (the original publisher), inspite of all the financial constraints, has come out with the first 4 volumes of the set of 9 volumes. He is in the process of publishing the fifth volume. He has published a limited number of copies (250) of each volume, because of paucity of buyers and funds. Approximaltely 50 copies of the first 4 volumes is still available with him. The first 4 volumes together cost close to Rs 1400/- (with out the postage charges). Venkatramanan's contact is as follows: Phone: 91-44-27466110; Address: Plot No 78, Door No 14, Valmiki street, Selvaraj Nagar Extension 2, Oorappakkam 603202 District of Kanchipuram TamilNadu Please call him if you need the book and he will be happy to respond to you promptly. Also, Mr Venkatraman calls a buyer of any volume, promptly, for any information on publication of forthcoming volumes. That would ensure that those who are interested in having this set in its entirety are assured of a continuity of information on the status of future publications. =====
