Guest guest
15.12.2005 Dear Members: When I was browsing through Hindu on 15th December 2005, I saw the following news item, which I am pleased to share with members of the group. Thiruppavai to be recited in Tirumala temple Tirupati, Dec. 15 (PTI): Ancient Tamil romantic verses 'Thiruppavai' would be recited by priests of Lord Venketeswara shrine in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh during the morning hours of 'Danurmasam' commencing from December 16 to January 14, replacing the traditionally played 'suprabhatam'. The verses, believed by devotees to have been composed by deity of Srivilliputtur in Tamil Nadu, goddess Andal in praise of Lord Venketeswara, would be sung as a 'wake-up call' to the deity from the start of the month of Dhanurmasam also known as Margazhi, the temple sources said. However, suprabhatam recital would resume from January 15, the sources added. It is nice to hear this arrangement. Hence, we can recite Tiruppalliyezhuchi and Tiruppavai from our residences by just assuming that we are standing in front of Lord Srinivasa. The legend says that flowers go to Tirumala from Srivilliputhur. Now Tiruppavai is also going there.
