Guest guest
Dear all: Dr. Ramakrishna's analogy given below is simple yet so apt in bringing out in a telling manner the necesity of doing SV . I am sure you will enjoy it. Moderator ================================================================= Priya Bhagawathas, Jaisrimannarayana My layman analogy of performing Trikala Sandhyavandanam by a human being is like travelling with three valid tickets necessary for the days journey. The procedure part of it may depend on one's chaathurvarnam that is a Brahmin should do with full mantras while others in decreasing order of rituals probably like offering water only in time or showing their gratitude in one way or the other etc. Not doing Sandhyavandanam is like ticketless travel on this journey of life Just as travelling with ticket will avoid the embarrassment of abusal, fining, penalty, jailing etc and at the same time travelling with ticket will not bestow any special prizes/awards/profits/gains; similarly performing Sandhyavandanam will only prevent us from situations similar to getting fined, penalized or jailed and doing it may not bestow extra favours by right but not getting the situations like fining/penalty/jail may themselves appear big fortunes. Applying the analogy further - a non-upanayanee's responsibility lies with his/her parents. So if the parents do not perform the Upanayanam of their offspring then the burden of sandhyavandanam (ticketing) shall be borne by them. But once a person undergoes upanayanam it is his reponsibility. Similarly girls are probably exempted from Sandhyavandanam in full ritualistic way and that is taken care by the father and later on by her husband. (but may be still offering them as gratitude directly/indirectly to the Lord or through doing service in running the household) All the doubts regards timing etc can also be compared with travelling like buying ticket before travelling and not whenever one likes Just as tickets are purchased while travelling what ever one's condition is like not well or suffering similarly Sandhyavandanam should be performed at all times and no exemption in general. This is only a lay man analogy Jaisrimannarayana Dr.Kilambi Ramakrishna Ramanuja Dasan
