Dear SrEvaishNavites,

Descritpitons for certain terms in the pAsuram-s are provided by AchAryAs which

are referred to in the vyAkyAnam-s. These not only provide insight into the

meaning of the term but also add flavour to the commentary.

The term is given in olive colour while the pAsuram is in blue and the vyAkyAnam

-whether mUvAyiram or ARayiram etc. is given in red for easy reference.

THE FLYING LITTLE LION

>From the First pAsuram: mUvAyiRappaDi

Sri krshNA is described as:

yasOdhai iLam singam: What is iLam singam ? Sri bhattar -- singak-kurugu.

What is singak kurugu? Singam is a wild animal while kurugu is a bird.

The little lion which flies and jump, is the intended meaning. Dont be misled

that He is a little one, He has the power of the lion and the capability of the

bird to fly.

'DONT HAVE ANY QUALMS WHATSOEVER'

>From the First pAsuram--nAlAyirappaDi.

sEr malgum AippADi:

One day sri bhattar was giving discourse on thiruppAvai when a srEvaishNavite

who was not having yagnOpavEtham -pUNal sAthAdha srEvaishNavar came. On seeing

this srE bhaTTar mentioned, "Do not hesitate. Enter without any qualms. This is

thiru-AippADi"

could you please clarify this point raised by one of our popular astrolgers.

"Appreciate the article. I would like to clarify a famous misconception on Sri

Ramanuja. Sri Ramanuja taught the meaning of 'Sarama Slokam', that is the

meaning of verses of 18th Chapter in Bhagavat Gira, relating to Surrender to

him as against "om Namo Narayana' in Thirukoshtiyur "
