Guest guest
Respected Dasan Padmanabahan, I have been very earnestly going through your articles through Divyadesam. Thanks for the good work. I am an ardent devotee of Vishnu though I am a saivaite. I consider both Shiva and vishnu as my two eyes. Your following lines It was seen that the chOzha king who was a saivate had redeemed Himself by surrendering at the divine feet of thirunaRaiyUr perumAL. seems to be an abberation in today's context. It is not required to degrade saivaites to extolthe virtues vaishnavism.I am sure you will agree to the fact that there are better and several other ways to propagate the good things. Thanking you Ramachandran. - Padmanabhan ramanuja ; Oppiliappan ; vanamamalai ; divyadesams Wednesday, June 29, 2005 5:45 AM A Peep into Periya ThiruMozhi 154 The king of three regions. Guest guest
Dear Shri Ramachandran, Since, I was away at Hyderabad, I was not able to repy forthwith. I do not know whether you are a saivaite or a smarthA. A saivite is one who believes that Lord ShivA gives salvation. A smArthA -as per my understanding, though worships others, believes that only Lord VishNu can give salvation -follower of Adi-sankarAs advaitam. In this case, the souls are considered as a part of the Lord. 2. VaishNavism considers Lord VishNu as paramAthmA and all others as jEvAthmA. They consider Him as the means and service to the Lord as the ultimate goal.-kainkaryam. 3. Therefore, both are exactly opposite to each other in philosophy. They cannot be two eyes, even if one sentimentally desires so. 4.' The Peep into Periya thirumozhi' write up, is based on Sri Periya VAchAn piLLai's vyAkyAnam and also explanations by Sri kAnchi PBA swAmy. 5. The principles of vaishNavism or saivism do not change in tandem with times. Whether in the present context or earlier, saivites firmly believe that their devotees do attain shivalOka prApthi. Due to change in times they cannot consider otherwise. Therefore, I reiterate that this is not an aberration on any day's context. 6. I am not propogating srEvaishNavism as you seem to think so. This faith's fundamental postulate is to cherish the em-perumAn's kalyANa guNangaL together alongwith the devotees. The experience of thirumozhi-thus is being shared. No offence is meant. However, I cannot twist periya thirumzohi or its vyAkyAnam or basic tents of srEvaishNavism to my whims and fancies or to changing times nor you dhEvAram or thiruvAchagam or bhaja gOvindham.
