CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS 2005.

Sri Mandayam Thirumalai Anandanpillai Alwar Thirumalai Iyengar Swami (1905 –

1973) was a scholar par excellence in Ubhaya Vedantha as well as the

traditional Sastras. He was a great visionary and was deeply respected in the

scholarly world as well as among his own disciples. He was honoured with many

titles like "Panditha-Raja" etc. He was the spiritual leader of many people

from all over India. He was widely respected for his knowledge and spiritual

attainments, and was instrumental in spreading the message of Sanatana Dharma,

throughout his life.

Sri Alwar Thrirumalai Iyengar Swami was also a torchbearer and premier Acharya

Purusha belonging to the leniage of Sri Anandalvan, the direct disciple of

Bhagawath Ramanuja. Ari Anandalwan at the behest of Sri Ramanuja, had proceded

to Thirupathi to perform 'Pushpa-Kainkaryam' unto Lord Srinivasa, the presiding

deity of Thirumalai hills.

In his early days, Sri Alwar Thirumalai Iyengar Swami performed Kala-kshepam

(course of traditional learning) at Sriperumbudur. Later he became a Professor

at the Veda-Vedantha-Bodhini-Samskrita Pathashala at Melukote, and then went on

to become the Principal of the same College. His reign of the College was an

illustrious one, with many great dignitaries like the President of India
