Magnanimity 10-Concluded

Normally a discusssion on magnanimity should be complete when the topic veers

around the Almighty. However, our sampradhAyam is as usual different. The

qualities of the Lord also pervades thorugh our pUrvAchAryAs -especially

em-perumAnAr and therefore any discussion on magnanimity will not be satisfying

unless this is related to the Great AchAryA.

 

What shall we say? His life is full of magnanimous events. The fact that he

descended to the earth for our sake and elevated us? The fact that He walked

eighteen times to obtain rahasyArtham from thriuvarangam to thiru-k-kOshTiyUr

only to declare it open to one and all inside the thirukkOshtiyUr thiruvOlakkam

? Or is it due to the fact that He declared that it is okay if he is doomed to

hell but the proclamation of the rahasyArtham will bequeath welfare for

hundreds of souls?

 

Or is it the fact that he removed the shackles and restricitons of the method

of inculcating secrets of our faith and threw it open to those who are desirous

of acquiring the knowledge of srEvaishNavism?

 

Yes, till then the method of education was one to one - one AchAryA will give

education to one shishyA.This narrowed down the sampradhAyam and the pervasion

to a large extent. This did not permit smooth and fast spread of knowledge of

our sampradhAyam.

 

Sri rAmAnujA changed the whole tradition. Broke the chain and introduced for our

good the method of educating one and all who are desirous of learning our

sampradhAyam. Out of immense Grace he encouraged not only pervasion and

imbibing knowledge to all but also furthered various interpretations to bring

about more and more taste and rasam into thiruvoizhmozhi and other vyAkyAnam-s.

In fact, it is opined that he desisted from giving vyAkyAnam to thiruvoimozhi

lest it will become final and there will be no further vyAkyAnam-s or thoughts

available. Perhaps, this led to the magnum-opus EDu vyAkyAnam for the

magnum-opus thiru-voi-mozhi.

Today it has resulted in all of us enjoying this anubavam in an alien language

and interacting through and therefore all these groups should be

dedicated to Sri RamAnujA. Is it not?

The lists goes on.

 

It is suffice to say that all his actions and deeds sprung out of compassion and

only compassion -kripA mAthram.

 

And that is magnanimity personified for you.
