One lakh devotees witness Tirumala “Ratha Sapthami”

About a lakh devotees from all over the country have witnessed the seven

different sacred processions of Lord Venkateswara taken out in a grand way at

Tirumala on the occasion of annual "Ratha Sapthami" festival today.

 

Temple sources said that in accordance with centuries old practice, the festival

was observed at the hill temple with great pomp and gaiety, marking the

auspicious day of Surya Jayanthi (Birth of the Sun God}.

 

As part of the festival, the processional deity of Lord Venkateswara adorned

with highly valuable dazzling ornaments, was taken out in a grand procession

around the temple on seven different sacred vahanas (carriers) including the

Sun God, Lord Hanuma Sarvabhupala and the Moon, at different intervals from

dawn to late in the evening.

The presiding deity of Lord was also adorned with rare diamond set ornaments on

the occasion and the entire seven hills wore a festive look with a large number

of traditional musical troupes from neighboring states especially from Tamilnadu

have charged the air.

 

Union Minister of State for HRD, Mrs. D.Purandeswari (daughter of NTR) and TTD

Board Chairman who also Union Minister of State for Mines, Dr. T.Subbirami

Reddy have participated in the Surya Vahana procession of Lord that took place

in the morning.
