Ananda,

A recent sage (I do not remember who) has said, "If you feel you are

enlightened, go and stay with your parents for a couple of weeks."

Your deep-rooted conditioning will surface there... if you haven't

eliminated each and every one by now.

Aspirants who leave their normal lives and live away from society may get

temporary Ananda just like you and I get in a holiday home... also which

vanishes when we come back to the bustling city.

regards

Sachin

>full force. But surely, Ramana is carrying the load. He is the real entity

thanks, Atanu for your reply on Ramana handling the load, and even being the

load. i do remind myself that this is all his play, He is playing these

roles and testing me. Your answer is reassuring :-)

Regarding what to do when 'friends' ask questions of us about doership - I

ve found I can just keep still. I don't have to speak. People are

accustomed to controlling us through questions. Just relax. It passes.

David, our Indian context is different. We cannot keep silent when certain

elders and relatives who are against this path keep questioning us. This

becomes the final turmoil that keeps troubling me, esp when i try to sit

quiet. However, when I am alone and these thoughts come up, i do keep

reflecting as to "who is disturbed? Who feels hurt by being questioned ?". I

know it is the ego that is hurt and not the real "I". Sometimes i feel this

is why aspirants have to leave their normal lives and live away from society

on the contrary, it is quite lucky to stay in society. There is always the availability of conflicting situations and ups and downs which are perfect for learning how to stand firm and detached, and be an observer... just an observer, watcher.

when asked to speak for instance to parents, just speak :) what's there in speaking ? be normal outwardly. to be an observer and to enquire into one's nature doesnt necessitate oneself to outwardly display as if one has changed.

here a saying by Sri Ramana Maharshi is appropriate:

"Inwardly free from all desires,

dispassionate and detached,

but outwardly active in all directions,

act playfully in the world, O Raghava!"

regards,

saurab

Sir, this is Verse 27 of the Supplement to the 40 Verses, which

is itself from Yoga Vasishta. The point is well made.
