In Tamil novels and magazines till a few decades back, I have seen the

term 'kaappiri' for black Africans. This is derived from 'Kafir' which the

Southern African whites used to call blacks. Probably this term was

introduced to Tamil from early Tamil settlers in SA in the latter part of

19th century
