CTamil/message/73 Now that we have 'ai' = father, elder brothers, husband in CT texts, the meaning of 'ai' seems to be 'elder, senior, respectable'. How does akkai 'elder sister' formed? Can we apply 'ai' (elder) prefix to nouns of female gender? We have 'aiyai' = Durgaa in CT. Possibly, akkai < ai 'elder/senior' + kai 'woman' ai + kai = *aikkai = akkai(akkA). I am thankful for any comments, N. Ganesan
