In Tamil, jasiminum auriculatum flower is called

1) Ucimalli 2) Utimalli and 3) Irkkumalli.

Uci = Uti = Irkku = needele, spike, sharp point etc.

-c-/-t- alterations are many in Tamil, nAvican=nAvitan=barber.

Since BhagavathapurANam uses yUthikA for jasminum auriculatum,

is yUthikA a Tamil loan?

Thanks,

N. Ganesan
