I suggest that ( with necessary permissions ) a genetic study be made of Parsees who are known to be a self-contained endogamous group of 1500 year standing. (Next to be studied could be Kashmiri Pandits, Namboodiris of Kerala and Ayangars of Tamilnadu.) If the conclusions drawn from such a study are consistent with what is otherwise known, genetic studies can be confidently extended into areas where these will provide new and unexpected insights. >From a methodical point of view, this seems like a good idea. I might add that Icelanders due to their isolation and small numbers are exceedingly popular with geneticists. Studies of the Sami of Northern Norway also yield interesting data about their prehistory (they are apparently extremely old in the area and not an recent immigrant population. Their genes therefore indicate a long history of isolation). Lars Martin Fosse Dr. art. Is this inferred from relations to neighbouring groups? Regards, Rohan.
