Guest guest
Dear members of the list, I would be very grateful if any of you could suggest some comments on the topic "Smile in Indian culture" - any philosophical or religious connotations (like the smile of the god etc.), general cultural regulations and taboos. Sincerely yours, Diana Mickeviciene, Lithuania

In the 7th century Tevaram bhakti poems, saints often tell that with the smile on Nataraja's face, He seems to ask the devotees with care, "when did you come?, are you tired?". In some Southern temples, Shiva is named the smiling God. Pallavas had good contacts with Cambodia, and there you can see temple towers (gopurams) where the god beckons devotees with a beseeching smile. Look at any Nataraja bronze performing aanandataa.n.dava in eternal bliss of the cosmos, the master Chola sculptors have signified him with a smile on the face. More later, N.
