Guest guest
First of all: I deeply regret my first impulsive answer to Arun Gupta concerning this subject. I should have know better, particularly because I came to remember Nordic mythology a few hours later, after I dashed off my speculative answer to Mr. Gupta. According to Snorri Sturluson's Younger Edda, this is how Valhalla looked: "Five hundred doors and forty as well I think there must be in Valhalla; Eight hundred warriors ("einherjar") walk together out through one door when they go to kill the wolf." "Hundred" means a "great hundred", in other words 120, so the total of doors in Valhalla is 640. Although there were halls in Viking Scandinavia, there are no remains of buildings in the Nordic countries or in their surroundings that are remotely similar to this. Valhalla is a mythical building, just as the one we just discussed in connection with the Aban Yasht and the Rig Veda. Once again, sorry for being such an idiot! Lars Martin Fosse Dr. art. Guest guest
Since Valhalla had spears for rafters, and shields for the roof, it is clearly without parallel in the natural world, even to its authors. Are there any elements of structure that would not be used in a real building mentioned in the Rig Veda or Avesta ? -Arun Gupta
