Guest guest
I think that people are requesting MW to take part in political causes because he does do that very often. Just recently, he took issue with Rajaram on another forum on the misuse of AIT and related theories by Christian missionaries. A few months ago, he actually authored articles in a leftist magazine (Frontline) and some other notes in other magazines in India that had more political content than academic content. Even his recent 'reply' to Shrikant Talageri's book has a special section on the political background on the controversy. (It is not out of place to mention here that the degeneration of EJVS into a gossipy tabloid has been facilitated by the connivance of friendly co-editors like Madhav Deshpande. What a disappointment!). And of course he has been a signatory (check the internet for proof) for political campaigns against saffronization of history in India. And yet when his support is asked to protest against the appointment of an ignorant communist to the post of the vice chancellorship of a Sanskrit University in India, he remains silent. He is the one who attacked nunmerous authors unfairly in his publications before they were even aware that someone by the name MW exists. However, MW remains silent when it comes to the PRESENT misuse of Aryan theories by Europeans. The silence here speaks more than a 1000 words. He played intense politics on the old Indology list too, thanks to the benign patronage of Dominik Wujastyk and numerous other birds of the same tree. And continues to do so on other forums. Witness his sick remarks on the IndianCivilization list after the Tehelka episode in India. Either you are unaware of his antics in totality or are choosing to be ignorant. As for Fosse, his posts are more informed by logical fallacies, incomplete knowledge and Norwegian nationalism than with anything else. If it is OK to call your opponents 'lunatic fringe', 'lunatics', 'crooks and crazies' and so on BECAUSE they happen to be Indians or sympathetic to India, it is also fitting to examine the ideological motivations and psychology of the supporters of AMT / AIT. The latter cannot maintain this facade of 'objectivity' (even if they have the support of Indian Marxists or shameless Brown Sahibs) if they themselves show cheap behavior which thrills only their own friends and admirers. Personally I too would like to see Professor Witzel to share his knowledge with us and am grateful to him for his useful publications - past and present. And I do not reject his writings just because somwhere he speaks of Vedic tanks. However, it is unfortunate that politics is intertwined with many of his recent works, and that very few Indologists have the spine or the moral integrity to protest against the degeneration of their field.
