For decades, I've gained immensely from discussions with

Indologists, and I respect their dedication and hard work.

Prof. J. W. de Jong's reference is much appreciated. Thanks.

I was intrigued to read when Richard Mahoney once quoted

Prof. de Jong:

> In later publications Przyluski succumbed to a mania of

> comparatism which led him to discover everywhere non-Indian

> influences.

> [1] p. 46 in de Jong, J.W. `A Brief History of Buddhist Studies

> in Europe and America' (Delhi: Sri Satguru, 1987)

Reading Przyluski's book, some things he takes to be Munda

are in Tamil myths from ancient times as well.

In the Indology list, Dr. P. K. Manansala was claiming

Munda/South East Asian origins for samudra-mandanam in Mahabharatam.

It is highly unlikely that the MBh. authors writing

about the churning of the ocean mention

the Indonesian volcanoes or the pouring out of molten lava there.

I find the VishNu_Narayana symbolism deeply Tamil.

With Narayana, connected with tamil NaaraNan of Alvars, -

Alvars always sing NaaraayaNa as 'black god/jewel' sleeping on

the anantha couch in the milky ocean. nAL- = black > nAraNan/nArAyaNa.

The brahma on the padma flower emanating from Narayaana is comparable

with agni/skanda/sanatkumara who is protected in the reed pond full of

flowers like lotuses, representing the six krittikA mothers. Brahma

and Skanda-Shanmukha-Sanatkumara have close structural relationships

even in Buddhist legends. In important seals from indus valley, there

are lotuses with a total of six petals, and a drop(bindu)/agni/kumAra

attached to the lotuses. I have suggested these represent 6

rishipatnis raising the baby Skanda. On the lotus symbolism:

On the demons, Madhu and KaiTabha trying to

disturb the yoganidra of NaaraayaNa:

So, the reference for Jan W. de Jong's article please,
