VA: Oh well! And of course you being a European will decide what are

good manners. I requested for a list of your publications because I

discovered that NOT ONE reputed journal on Indology and South Asian

studies (and I have read hundreds of issues) that I read in the last

several years has a single publication authored by you. Not to mention

that even your PhD thesis does not have any realy conclusion. Maybe

you publish only in Norwegian journals.

VA: I have a suggestion. Go the old Indology list and do a statistical

comparison of your posts and mine looking at the proportions of posts

that have a political content, personal attack, abusive statement. Let

me know what your results are.

VA: So that is how linguists and philologists draw conclusions! I am

erratic in signing and not signing my posts and there is absolutely

need for 'courage' to sign my own name when it is displayed so

prominently in my email address. You can of course choose to apply

Harvard Professor Jeffrey Kripal style psycho-analysis. After all

philologists and linguists know everything!

VA: Maybe only Nordics have courage. Is your remark manifestation of

'masculine Europe, feminine Asia' (aka 'Aggressive Aryan horsemen

riding into docile Indian IVC heartlands to caste their caucasian

genes') mindest? Just joking. Please do not tax your over-burdened

mind with this remark.

Yours signatorily,

Dear Sri Agarwal,

Many of us in the list are apolitical. I am of Indian origin

and am pained when views on India are distorted and misrepresented

to create "supremacy". I have liked many of your postings and

your defence of India silently. I am an admirer.

However, the honesty that anyone professes as a scholar does not

entitle to call names to other individuals. If these individuals

are not worth your merit, you may leave them alone. By using

language that would be considered unprofessional, the list

definitely suffers. Calling names is neither research,

nor scholarship.

I believe you are good scholar, but with high passion.

The goal in life is to contain passion and respect viewpoints.

After all this is the least India taught to the world.

Let me hope I am heard on behalf of the tradition.

Bijoy Misra.
