What may have happened in the west was, as an apology to nazism, fascism, colonialism and imperialism, people have now gone to other extreme - "a one world society" where nationalism is a dirty word. Today Bush-the-executioner-of-McVeigh had to face a Europe which detests death penalty, as if death was something unheard of! The reality is, we still have a long way to go. 2. This idealistic view of world is ofcourse strategically limited to NATO but rest of the the world should continue to suffer from terrorism, poverty etc. All necessary kindling sticks will be offered as needed (heat seeking missiles given to Let that landed in Kargil etc). 3. Even within NATO, the old euqations are still alive. Just wait till you heard the last word on freetrade or euro. I wish everybody all the best but the iniqualities will only grow. There are many sililarities between 1920s and 1990s at least as far as European economies are concerned, but the rest of the world had undergone a sea change. 4. In the democratic west of last 200-300 years everybody is a capitalist with some minor variations : republican, democratic, labor, conservative, moderate etc. Whereas in east (e.g. India) there is a wide spectrum of official political parties ranging from extreme right to extreme left. There is no proof that the western system of abolishing anything other than the narrow 2 or 3 party system is any better than the multi-party system of east. The western system only pushes the extreme right and left under the carper until it is too late; whereas the Indian system confronts them in daily life. This daily confrontation is strange to the west, which is the reason why even a normal expression of Hindu rightist expression becomes fanatic. The Indian left is silent on this board, but active on other boards, and their opinions are no less fanatic, one-sided and they proved they have no-ears-but-mouth. They are silent here because they found some friends. Well, I do admit some of the rightist posts were quite illogical to the extent they go against their own cause; but the initial reactions to them were also interesting. There was a proverb in Telugu that when asked who stole the pumpkin, somebody said "Not me" while touching his own shoulders.
