Is somebody who stereotypes an > entire group of people as racists and fanatics qualify as a scholar ? The answer to this can very easily be "yes". It simply depends upon whether the "stereotype" is correct or not. For instance: 1. The Ku-Klux Clan is a fanatical racist organisation. (They would probably be proud to agree). 2. The German Nazi Party was as fanatical racist organisation. (No denial there either, I suppose) So are "Hindus" racist? Evidently, some of them are, but not necessarily all of them. So it depends upon how you categorise, in other words: which subgroups you refer to. Indicentally, if you check out the Dalit web sites, you will find that Dalits are busy lambasting the caste system as a kind of racism, they even want it debated at the Durban conference on racism. The question is: do people who support the caste system qualify as racists, or should we simply say that they support the Indian brand of apartheid, race being irrelevant, since the central problem is "purity"? A lot of difficulties here. And incidentally, George Thompson does qualify as a scholar. His production in Vedic studies proves him to be one. Lars Martin Fosse Dr. art.
