Guest guest
The kings of India have generally, practised pantheism - policy of respecting and supporting all the sects and all the devas. Some time ago, I was invited to present a talk on diversity and its acceptance in India. I had chosen pantheism as one of the examples. I have some quotes on pantheism as a state (or society) policy in India, and I am looking for some more. I have these two: Ashoka's edict 7 ........ I have also ordered that they should be occupied with the affairs of the Brahmans and the Ajivikas. I have ordered that they be occupied with the Niganthas.[43] In fact, I have ordered that different Mahamatras be occupied with the particular affairs of all different religions. And my Dhamma Mahamatras likewise are occupied with these and other religions. Kharvel's Udaygiri cave inscription ...... Worshipper of all sects, restorer of shrines of all gods, (sava pasaNDa puujako, sava devaayatan sanskaarako..) with a mightly chakra bearing army, born in the rajarshi clan, great conquerer, King Shri Kharvel. There is a 9th cent Kannada inscription of LokaaTe, a mandalika of Rashtrakuta Krishna. He mentions having settled the Lokapur town, "adorned with shrines of Hari, Hara, Jina and Buddha." Is the original text and/or direct translation of this inscription available somewhere? Are there more such examples? Thanks.
