Guest guest
Dear Friends: Over the ages, many men and women of goodwill and curiosity, many inquisitive scholars and commentators from all over the world have been interested in the cultural richness that is India. They have gathered an incredibly vast range and variety of impressions, right and wrong, insightful, and distorted, elucidating and confusing, about India and Hinduism. But in recent years, and particularly in these forums, many of those who are dedicated to exploring, understanding and interpreting the complex, rich and colorful traditions, history, and culture of India have been shorn into battling camps; their mutual misunderstanding has been gradually degenerating into mutual acrimony, contempt, and hurtful name-calling. Each group has its own convictions: group A thinks that group B is basically ignorant and bigoted, while B thinks that A is fundamentally evil and oppressive. Upto a point, such exchanges were revelatory of what happens when search for understanding is clouded by passion (justified or not, provoked or unprovoked). They were even interesting, if not amusing to me. But I can stomach the growing animosity no longer. There are too many beautiful things and ideas in the world, too many demands for caring and compassion too many opportunities for love and respect that I would rather experience in the few more months or years that may be left for me. So, I wish all of you every success and satisfaction in your respective attacks and defenses in your fights for the right cause, and leave you will with my best regards, VVRaman June 14, 2001
Guest guest
I completely agree. Life is too short for wasting it on aggression. I am now leaving this list, too. I'll occasionally monitor the input, and if it ever recovers to normality, I might return. In the meantime, good bye to you all, and good luck. Guest guest
Dear List Members: It is indeed sad to see the more sober members of this list, such as VV Raman etc. leave. I urge all of you to reconsider. Any one who is concerned with the search for truth should stand and fight against those who would run roughshod over this search. Don't let those who post in bad spirit bully their way into dominance.
