Guest guest
We don't need an Indology-B. This is Indology-B. I will close Indology-B. But we do need a library or conference room where academic discussions and postings can be made in a quiet and dignified atmosphere and work, not debating, can get done. Ergo, Indology-A, which I will open to postings as soon as the question below is answered. Whether it is used will determine whether it is continued. To make the contents of Indology-A automatically available to members of this list, I would have to make everyone here automatically a member of A. Several objected when Aditya did that some time back. If you object, please say so, publicly or privately. If a large number (15+) object, I won't do it at all, and people will simply have to join individually. If only a few object, I will remove their names and not add them to A. Is that agreeable to all?? Silence operates as consent. To keep the contents of Indology-A to subjects and messages fit for posting in a library or academic conference room devoted to Indology, and still give everyone access to the postings, there must be a moderator of A who decides what is posted. I will perform this function until the list designates someone else. I simply won't be able to do it consistently for very long, and, being unqualified, I will have very few occasions to post there, if any. If the A list becomes useful, it will simply have to provide a replacement when I stop, say in a month. Really, it doesn't take much to be a moderator with two channels going. If the message is rude or non-academic, it can simply be redirected to the B channel, which handles rudeness another way. One doesn't even have to decide who is qualified to post. One simply has to act like a librarian and say "Shhh!" now and then, and deal with customer complaints. Perhaps a qualified junior, provided he or she does not over-awe easily, would be best? Nominations, volunteers? You can really make a name for yourself in a hurry, I would imagine. David

Unsolicited, friendly advice - don't do it. Indeed, if those who want to maintain scholarship are serious, they should take the lead in doing so. It could have been done easily enough, on this forum itself. Your efforts in the past seem to have largely fallen on deaf ears. I must admire the sincerity you bring, but don't know what to say about the scant response it evokes among members. Those who want to brawl will brawl. I hereby join the exodus, after one more posting on the Esperanto translation of the Gita. Vidyasankar
