Guest guest
It is up to each of the members to decide wether they consider this post or not as I am not a linguist by profession (my age too, could cause scepticism). Since nationality seems to be at the core of the discussions, I feel compelled to notify the members that I am European, in fact Norwegian. I have been following the discussions in this group for some weeks. I would suggest a collegium of, say, three to five members to co- moderate this list or the proposed A-list, since there is pretty much activity. Then there would be two lists, one where each message must be accepted by moderators and a second where discussions will be unmoderated. Knowing that the A-list is moderated, the members might think twice before they send their conribution. This alone might have positive effect on the quality of the discussions. Why do I care? Introd. My name is Håvard Frølandshagen, I am a 17 (18 soon though) yrs. old Norwegian student with special interest in linguistics. I have only basic knowledge of Sanskrit, but since there is such a group of scholars present online, I would like it to function properly so that I can study the discussions and thereby have chance to improve my knowledge. I am currently moderating my own discussion group (in English) on the Norwegian language, but the discussions haven't started yet (right now its nature is more like that of a newsletter service). I also maintain my own site where I publish a grammar (this one also in English). I wouldn't mind volunteer for a moderator of this list but there are many obstacles. First of all language, I don't take English courses at school anymore, so my online activities are the only way I practice this language. And there is my age and experience, I assume many would protest against such a choice of moderator. I can also imagine it would be quite a lot to do if I were to accept pending postings since there is so much activity here, that is why I propose a collegium of moderators. But then again it seems pretty much of what is discussed here don't belong in such a forum, and would seemingly narrow the activity considerably, had these threads been ignored. I would really like a good place to study Sanskrit or related topics and I believe this place could be it. Håvard
Guest guest
For those who read my naive initiative: Please notify me if I made the wrong assumption that Indology is about classical languages of India, I suddenly realised that header says: INDOLOGY · Academic list for the discussion of classical India If I have come to the wrong group then I will not bother the members.
