Guest guest
I have recently returned to Indology and I am very intrigued by the controversy over the AMT. I would like to evaluate the basic source materials regarding this area and I would be most thankful if the members of this forum would share with me their recommendations about useful sources of information. I was thinking a list of books and other resources on the following topics (plus others I may have missed) might be useful to all: •Dating of the vedic literatures and their recensions; • Principles and history of Linguistics as relevant to the AMT; • Archeological, anthropological, geological, textual and other evidence related to South Asia and the other areas of the Indo-European expansion; • Major theorists on both sides of the fence; • Major Vedic texts and secondary sources; • Other resources like web sites, online archives of texts, etc. Regarding languages, English is naturally preferable. But valuable texts in other languages would also be interesting. Personally, German is workable. French and Hindi are possible but problematical (especially in these technical fields.) Sanskrit is neccessary although translations and especially dual-language versions are appreciated. Where possible, please include preferred translations, publisher, and date of publication. Guest guest
You will find a useful bibliography via the following webpage (go to section III) http://www.voi.org/vishal_agarwal/What_is_AMT.html This will answer SOME, but not all of your questions. Please look into Prof. Witzel's message to this list: INDOLOGY/message/831 A summary of this debate is in his 93-page long papper, available in .pdf format. Regards, N.
