Guest guest
Dear Sanskritists, Interested in the portrayals of caste, untouchability, and mention of folks such as funeral ritualists, leather workers, drummers in early Sanskrit literature through 6-7th centuries CE. Any references about indological articles and/or books on these issues are appreciated. The bottom castes of the South Indian society are mentioned in Tamil sangam texts in early centuries CE. The idea of pollution had been historically one of the main causes of discrimination. Independent India is marching towards a caste-free society, and old discriminating practices have been outlawed. Some connections with Sanskrit and Tamil names from ancient texts are in these messages: Sanskrit 'rajakI' and washerwoman in Tamil sangam texts: INDOLOGY/message/1378 "izicin2an" drummer in sangam texts: CTamil/message/360 Regards, N.
