Guest guest
Dear List Members, I require a copy of "KeraLapANinIyam" of A R Rajaraja Varma, first edition (Jan 1895), which has most probably been reprinted. Can anybody supply me the address from where to procure a copy of it ? The second edition (1917) was completely revised and written in 194 kArikAs. It was reprinted many times since 1968. In his English "Introduction" to the 2nd edition P K Narayana Pillai says:"I feel a sort of personal loss in the omission of the Sutras which proved such a delight to me to tackle and master" (p.32). It is clear from this statement that the first edition was in Sutra-form. But from his Introduction it is not clear whether the sutras were in Sanskrit or Malayalam. In case the reprint of the 2nd edition is out of stock, can anybody provide me the following information ? 1. Total No. of sUtras 2. No. of chapters. In case the grammar is written topic-wise like KAtantra, then name of the topics as well as the corresponding sUtra no. also 3. Whether the chapters are divided into further subsections 4. Whether the sUtras are in Sanskrit or Malayalam 5. Whether the commentary is in Sanskrit or Malayalam With regards Yours sincerely Narayan Prasad __________ Get your free @.co.uk address at http://mail..co.uk or your free @.ie address at http://mail..ie

Guest guest
Are you aware that there is an English translation of Kerala Paniniyam (Second Edition) by C.J. Roy which has been published by the International School of Dravidian Linguistics (Trivandrum, Kerala)? * ISBN 81-85692-25-4 * xxiv + 331 pp. * Treatise on Malayalam Grammar * Translated from Malayalam by Dr C. J. Roy * First published August 1999 * Price: Rs. 400 (US $ 40 outside India The foreword by B. Gopinathan Nair & V.I. Subramoniam says: "[...] Understanding Kerala Paaniniyam "in its original Malayalam is not easy. "Even for Malayalees it needs a close "and repeated reading of the text, "to have an unambiguous understanding. [...]" The "Note from the tranlator" says: "[...] The work was originally published in 1896 "and was thoroughly revised by the author "in 1917 [...] "The author points out that the original text "of Kerala Paniniyam was just an outcome "of a child's inquisitiveness, whereas "its revised version was a serious study "intended as a text book for postgraduate "students in Malayalam. Unfortunately, this book does not seem to contain any bibliographical details. -- Jean-Luc Chevillard (Paris) INDOLOGY, narayan prasad <prasad_cwprs> wrote: > Dear List Members, > > I require a copy of "KeraLapANinIyam" of A R > Rajaraja Varma, first edition (Jan 1895), which has > most probably been reprinted.
