Guest guest
Dear list-members, The first volume of Catalogus Catalogorum (University of Madras, 1968) mentions 'A hand-list of the MSS (under 'A') in the Lalchand Research Library, D.A.V. College, Lahore (349 MSS)'. Those are the Sanskrit MSS. Does anyone know, where are the MSS now, is the college still there and at what address? Thank you. Guest guest
Many MSS were brought to Chandigarh after the partition and preserved in the DAV College library, Chandigarh. Please try there. Guest guest
Here is a catalog listing most of these manuscripts, transported from riot torn Lahore at great risk to their lives, by Vishvabandhu Shastri, some European ladies etc.: Title: Visvesvaranandasamsthaniya-hastalekhasangraha-paritalika. Visvabandhuna, Bhimadeva-Pitambaradatta-Padmanabhadividusa sahathyakena sampadita. Publisher Name: Vishveshvaranand Vedic Research Institute. Edition: [Prathama samskarana] Published: Hosiarapure, Visvesvarananda Vaidika Sodha Samsthanam, 2015 Vi. [1959] Description: 2 v. 25 cm. Series: Vishveshvaranand Indological series, 10-11. Vishveshvaranand Vedic Research Institute publication ; 159-160. Contributors: Shastri, Vishva Bandhu, 1896- ed. My understanding is that the volumes do not cover all the manuscripts and some were left out, and that they were eventually transferred to Chandigarh. May manuscripts are still present in Lahore University collection, where they are still present in good state of preservation. Maybe a list member who has been to Lahore (Harry Falk? Michael Witzel?) could confirm this.
