SHEIKH.All Sheikhs are not descendents of Prophet Mohhamad

No. I have been around Indian English-educated Urdu

speakers,and I have never heard them say this. I know

a handful of Pakistani gentlemen, who have not spoken

thus, yet.

Sheikh. This is the only spelling I have seen.

Interestingly, I have heard it from Tamils.

It is used as a surname in India. The telephone

directories give it mostly as Shaikh, less as Sheikh

and sometimes as Sheik. I have also seen it spelled as

Shaykh for people of Arab countries.
