Guest guest
Dear Friends, Members of this list may be interested to know that the original INDOLOGY list, hosted at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucgadkw/indology.html (bookmarked on the INDOLOGY page), has initiated discussion again. Access to current postings and comprehensive discussion archives is freely available to all via the web at the above location. Membership in this "new/old" INDOLOGY list (with posting privileges) is, however, restricted. The list's foundational principles have been substantially clarified over the course of much discussion by an international committee of Indological scholars. The official document expressing the "Scope and Guidelines of the INDOLOGY list" may be found at the above address. Concerning membership, it states that: "INDOLOGY was created to serve as a medium of communication between accredited scholars of India who are engaged in teaching and research at colleges, universities, and research institutes. Full Membership with posting privileges is therefore restricted to those holding advanced degrees (M.A., Ph.D., or equivalent), or who are currently enrolled in an advanced degree program, who either specialize in, or do a significant portion of their work in classical Indian Studies. Special exceptions to the advanced degree requirement are occasionally made in cases where applicants have significant *scholarly* publication records in Indology. Affiliation with an academic institution is strongly preferred, even though individuals who are not formally affiliated with a university or a similar organization may join provided that their scholarly commitment can be made plausible to the list-committee through their CV." Those who feel they meet these criteria and who would like to be admitted to membership should first consult this document for complete information before sending a brief CV stating education, publications, record of teaching, research, and service to the field, etc. (as described in the "Scope and Guidelines" document) to the Indology Committee at: INDOLOGYCOMMITTEE With best regards, Christian K.
