I think Nov. 3 is it, for in a very critical technical sense- namely, it fits a

definition.

The amaaavaasyaa starts at 2 hr. 23 min. 14 sec. or less than 144 minutes

(though not by much!) after sunset on Nov. 3.

The definition of pradoshha is six ghaTikaa or 144 minutes after sunset

according to vyaasa in madanaratna

(according to my nirNayasindhu). So, for LakShmiipuujana, the date of Nov. 3 is

appropriate, it does qualify as pradoshhavyaapinii!

You will have to check on the date for the bath - abhya.ngasnaana. By my book it

is to be done on the day when there is svaatii nakShatra and may come up to any

day till kaartika 2. (By authority of braahmaa.)

Hope this helps.

New year should be on Nov. 5 as you stated, I don't know any other

definition/tradition.
