Guest guest
06/11/2001 Dear Dr. Wedemeyer, Thanks for the information. I find the desire to tag people as belonging to one race or another, rather strange. Why not simply tag an Indian by his nationality? Why pigmented Caucasian, or coloured, or any such thing? In any case, I do not think we Indians fit in very well with the race stereotypes! I am very fair skinned (Aryan influence?), and have a flat nose, round face and thick lips (Negroid influence?). In India, people are asked to state their religion and caste while filling up any government form. I do not understand this need to compartmentalise people in different ethnic, racial, religious or caste-based groups. Why can't people just be people? Dear Mr. David, Jai Jinendra You wrote that, "Genetic studies prove that the entire human race is very closely related. A favorable genetic mutation anywhere in the world will soon (in evolutionary terms "soon") find it's way across the whole human gene pool." I agree completely with what you have to say! "Also I don't think that Aryan, or better "ârya-", was originally a racial term but rather an ethno-cultural/linguistic designation." Interestingly, Jainism describes an Arya, as he who is noble. This has nothing to do with race, or caste or ethnicity. "However unfortunately many individuals in this world don't or can't find a sense of self-worth in their own character and achievements and so look to their membership in a race, nation, religion, tribe, party or whatever." You are so right! Lack of self-worth, self-confidence and creativity gives rise to jealousy. That is why the Ellsworth Tooheys of the world seek to destroy the Howard Roarks!
