Guest guest
<What about Gita as a relic of holy war.> Technically a Holy War is one inspired by religion, in the name of God and Faith and Scripture and Sacred place. This must be disinguished from a War for a (perceived) just cause or pinciple. If this distinction is not made, practically every war becomes Holy War. The Kurukshetra War belongs to the second category. V. V. Guest guest
I'm interested in a similar question. What are the historical origins of this term, Jihad? I do not think sadhana is accurate because i think sadhana refers to a kind of discipline, which of course may be related. But as i understand it, sadhana is often associated with religious practices and rituals. A text by Dr. Hiltebeitel, entitled Ritual of War may be useful. It deals largely with the Mahabharata.
